Sadly I will never be a professional bodybuilder, tennis player or squash player.
The days of going pro for anything are long gone.
Actually, those days never existed. I was never on track to go pro for anything.
I wasn’t willing to put in the effort.
Have you read what professional athletes give up for the chance to go pro? It’s nuts.
I don’t have it in me. Never did.
I’m a “good enough is good enough” type of guy.
These days my health regimen focuses on staying reasonably healthy. I’ll never run an Ironman or marathon. I won’t grace any local bodybuilding stage.
I walk, mountain bike, play some racquet sports and lift weights 30 to 45 minutes per week.
It’s not much, BUT it’s enough.
In fact, my “good enough is good enough” regimen probably gets me to 80% or more of optimal health.
I could train more but to improve my health and performance another 10% would require a disproportionate increased level of training.
Like I said, I don’t have it in me.
I don’t care enough.
80% is the sweet spot for me. It’s the “good enough is good enough” level.
My entire online business, including Fat Stacks, is 80% good.
The amount of work required to improve it 10%+ would be disproportionate. It’s not necessary.
I focus on the basics which is 80% of the job.
As you can tell, I’m far from being a perfectionist.
I’m glad I’m not a perfectionist.
What else could I do to improve 10%+?
- Outreach – especially with my linkable assets
- More diligent interlinking on niche sites
- More stringent editing for all content
- More judicious keyword selection (get more bang for my buck)
- Much better podcast/video editing and tech. Actually, I don’t edit anything so any editing would be good. However, for now I’m not going there.
- More care in customizing social media knowledge graphs (is that what it’s called?)
- Definitely more effort in better-placed affililate links.
- I could go on and on.
If that’s the unfinished 20%, what’s the 80% that I actually do?
The 80% is comprised of publishing good content, some interlinking, linkable asset creation and decent KW research (not perfect though).
Perfectionists think I’m nuts.
Here’s the thing.
I do enough to get 80% of potential results.
If I got no results doing what I do, I’d do more.
Since what I do gets me 80% of potential results and 10% more requires so much more work, I’m good with 80%.
The very same principle applies to my niche sites generally.
I have 16 niche sites plus Fat Stacks.
I put most of my effort into the highest-earning site.
My next best earning 3 or 4 other sites get some attention.
The rest are more or less on autopilot. They’ll grow … slowly. Some will be duds. Some will be winners.
20% of my sites get 80% of my time.
Am I advocating being a slacker?
No, I’m not.
I still work hard.
I just don’t see the point of putting in triple amount of effort to squeeze out an extra 10% of results.
I’d rather deploy that extra effort into something that gets to 80%.
That’s a net benefit for me.
The important thing is you don’t have to do this stuff perfectly to make it work.
Do what’s necessary to get to 80% of potential results.
Good enough is good enough, right?
What’s good enough?
Good enough for me is whatever gets me to 80% of potential results.
