Crank n’ Bank is a term I coined for my main content strategy on my niche sites.
This content strategy focuses on publishing a lot of content, most of which targets low competition keywords. I largely asses the level of competition with Ahref’s keyword difficulty score, but also manually check in Google search results by searching in Google with the potential keyword and assessing the competitive landscape of the keyword.
It’s the opposite of the Rank n’ Bank content strategy.
No link building
My goal is to rank for lots of keywords without link building, which requires going after low competition keywords. In order for there to be sufficient traffic, I publish a lot of content weekly.
While I don’t build links, these very specific topics when covered with good content can and do attract inbound links naturally. Over time, these links grow my sites’ domain authority.
Note that just because I target lower competition keywords doesn’t mean I publish garbage content. I strive to publish decent content and in some cases outstanding content.
As site authority grows, I’m able to go after slightly more competitive keywords.
It’s a long process, but a strategy I like because I can focus on content instead of link building and/or promotion. I’m not saying promotion or link building is bad, it’s just that I don’t care to do it. I’d rather focus my time and resources in content.
The most common monetization method for Crank ‘n Bank is display ads because most keywords don’t have much or any buyer intent. Accordingly, the EPMV is usually quite a bit lower than content deploying the Rank n’ Bank strategy.
An article targeting “benefits of aluminum” is an example of the Crank n’ Bank content strategy.
